Artist Promotion #8

Name: Jaspa Kings
Members: Graig-GZ/Ad-Man/DJ X-Rated
When you think of hip-hop music perhaps thoughts of artists like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Eminem, and other big-time rappers enter your head. Then stop and consider the guys that are going to make it big – like the Jaspa Kings. The Jaspa Kings are a Hip-Hop/R&B group from Tulsa, Oklahoma that have made a big splash in the hip-hop scene in just the short time they have been performing together. The group consists of four brothers, all Native American. Four years ago, Craig-GZ and Ad-Man worked hard getting tracks and lyrics together, calling themselves “NP Warriors”. Together they distributed CD’s of their material to friends and family, counting on word of mouth to jump-start their success. Their fan base began to grow at lightning speed and with it, their passion for hip-hop music. In 2004, the group was expanded to include Silverback, who returned from serving in the U.S. Marine Corp, and the group decided to change the name to Jaspa Kings. The addition of the fourth brother, DJ X-Rated, completed this tremendously talented group. The name Jaspa Kings came from the streets the brothers lived between while growing up in Tulsa; Jasper Street and King Street. The brothers also had a great desire to be “Kings” of hip-hop, so the name was a perfect fit. With such songs as “Sooner Anthem”, “Sugababy”, “No More Worries”, and “Lonely Girl” it’s no wonder the Jaspa Kings are gaining popularity. Nominated for two awards at the 1st Annual Oklahoma Mixtape Awards, Anthem of the Year for “Sooner Anthem” and Song of the Year for “Lonely Girl”, the Jaspa Kings took home the prestigious award for Song of the Year, forever cementing the success of “Lonely Girl”. The Jaspa Kings have been performing live since 2007. Although every performance holds special meaning for them, they will never forget their first show in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, opening for several up-and-coming artists from the area. Since that show, the Jaspa Kings have played the 2nd Annual Native Fall Music Festival, the 34th Annual Creek Festival, and various venues in Norman, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Broken Arrow, and Midwest City. The best is yet to come as the group plans to release their first CD entitled, “3 Kings”. Native American musical groups, and especially Native American rappers, are rare in the music industry. The Jaspa Kings want to change all that. They have made it one of their goals to be successful mainstream artists; world-renowned like the artists you first consider when thinking of hip-hop music. Once the Jaspa Kings get there, they have a strong commitment to showing other Native Americans how to realize their goals too. Their future plans for Native American youth include a lot of encouragement; helping them realize their artistic dreams and showing them how to turn those dreams into reality. Many thanks to everyone who have been with us from the start and those that supported us along the way!
